5 Fun Facts About Latin Dance

Posted by Sue Young on April 13, 2017 at 9:25 PM

1) Latin dance has had many influences — some of the cultures that were a part of developing Latin dance and music are the African, Spanish, and Portuguese.

2) Latin dance is only complete with the music! The maracas, bongos, marimba, and conga drums are all instruments that are used in combination with guitars and horns such as trumpets to make up traditional Latin music.

3) Salsa is a great partner dance, but it can also be a line dance that is known as the salsa suelta. In this case, every dancer dances individually in a larger group with the men facing the women.

4) Salsa is the perfect way to enter the world of dance. Once you learn the basic steps, it will be easy to learn other dances such as Mambo, Reggaeton, and Bachata.

5) When Salsa expanded into the United States, it was an important event in the history of this dance. American soldiers were of the first who became aware of Salsa during the Cuban war of 1898.
