November 7, 2015 to the attendees of the salsa bootcamp....."great job!" 3 hours of salsa and they all made it through!
Salsa has been around since the 1920's but not exactly as we know it today. With it's afro-cuban roots it has been expanded upon over the years with influences from Cuba, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and more. The term SALSA was born in New York in the 1970s'.
There are several different styles: Colombian/Cali style, Cuban/Casino, Miami style/Casino, Rueda de Casino, Los Angelos/ Style (on 1), New York style (on 2) all with roots in their respective cultures. Steps like the basic or mambo, rombo, side to side, cumbia, and singer step make up the fundamentals of on 1 salsa. On 2 salsa adds "shines' and gives the dancers the chance to show off their own unique styles.
Whatever style you choose to learn, add salsa to your bucket list....you will be glad you did! Come dancing....where will the rythm take you?
